Graeme Souness has told TalkSPORT (Monday, 10:40AM) that he does not think Steven Gerrard would consider returning to manage Rangers, after the Ibrox club sacked Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Monday morning.
Van Bronckhorst has been given his marching orders after failing at Rangers this season. His stock could not have been higher after taking Rangers to a Europa League final, and winning the Scottish Cup. But this season, form has dwindled.
They have the tag of being the worst-ever team in Champions League group stages. They lost all six games and conceded a huge 22 goals – scoring only twice. Rangers are also a huge nine points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Rangers legend Souness was asked if Gerrard could replace van Bronckhorst, after the Dutchman was sacked. Gerrard left to join Villa in 2021 and has also been sacked – remaining out of work. He said he bumped into him in Spain.
“I saw Steven a couple of weeks ago in Spain and he said, given time, he would be interested in going back into football. I don’t think he will go back to Rangers, though,” Souness told TalkSPORT, when asked about Gerrard.

Souness does not think Gerrard would consider returning to Rangers
It would be a surprise for Gerrard to consider a return but as things stand, if he is keen to return, where else could he go? More of a shock, would be Rangers returning to Gerrard. Of course, Rangers starred at times under Gerrard.
He took a side looking somewhat beleaguered, into unbeaten Scottish Premiership winners. His signings worked, his ability to galvanise a fanbase, his work in Europe – it was all superb. But it tailed off and ended in poor form.
Van Bronckhorst has built, and then faltered on Gerrard’s time in charge. Rangers need a boost, a freshness at Ibrox. Gerrard would not give them that, even if a lot of players enjoyed their time under the Liverpool legend.
