Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers side currently sit fifth in the table.

Graeme Souness has suggested that the atmosphere that Rangers supporters create at Ibrox could inspire the side to finish second in the Scottish Premiership this season, the Daily Mail reports.
Mark Warburton’s men are currently fifth in the table, and already find themselves seven points adrift of top spot, even after playing a game more than their Old Firm rivals.

But despite their titles hopes already looking bleak, the former Gers player and manager has tipped the club to still secure an encouraging finish in their first year back in the top flight.
“What would be a good finish for Rangers? I wouldn’t put a number on it. But with the passion there is at home games at Ibrox, then they could go on a roll, easily. And if that happens, they could finish second,” he said, as reported by the Mail.
Though they go into their clash with St Johnstone off the back of a disappointing defeat to Celtic in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, Warburton’s men will still surely have plenty of confidence after some better results in the build-up to the Hampden Park showdown.

In between the two Old Firm defeats, they have lost just once. And that result, a 2-1 loss against Aberdeen, only occurred after a controversial decision led to the Dons’ winner.
Rangers’ style of play may have been less attractive at times in recent weeks, but they have shown a determination to come through this transitional period in as strong a position as possible. And Souness is hopeful that, with plenty of support, they can still book their ticket into Europe for next season.
