Liverpool won the Champions League last month in what Graeme Souness claims will be the first trophy of many under the mercurial manager.

Graeme Souness has told The Mirror that their recent Champions League title could open the floodgates for Liverpool in regards to winning trophies.

The Reds beat Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid a month ago to win the European Cup for a sixth time.

In doing so, it was also the first bit of silverware that Liverpool had won since Jurgen Klopp took the reins at Anfield almost four years ago.

Klopp’s side dominated in Europe and perhaps even in the Premier League, having only lost one game all season and still wound up being pipped to the title by Manchester City, who finished a point higher.

Nevertheless, Souness, a legend of the Merseyside club, saw enough from his former side last season to believe that the German manager could potentially oversee a dynasty.

He told The Mirror “When Klopp came to speak to us when he was on the touchline at Cardiff a couple of months back, I said to him that it will be only a matter of time before you start winning trophies with this team. It’s inevitable more will come.

“They only lost one game all season in the Premier League last year – and that was at Man City. I was at that match and it should have been a draw.

In James Milner, they have a quiet assassin and I don’t think I’d particularly enjoy playing against their midfield because they are on you all the time, they want to get physically involved with you – and they steamroller. More success will come for them.”
