It was a night to forget for those representing Tottenham Hotspur as they were thrashed by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Graeme Souness has launched a scathing attack on Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy after Spurs were humiliated 7-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Sky Sports pundit made it clear that Spurs are in the position they are in because of ‘rank bad’ decision-making from those in charge upstairs.
Souness questions whether Spurs’ senior man in the boardroom, Levy, is actually a ‘smooth operator’ for allowing certain players to run their contracts down as he stated that the whole situation ‘stinks’.
Before Tuesday night’s game, Spurs’ season had started off in an indifferent manner, but now Mauricio Pochettino and Co. are facing a real nightmare.
After the final whistle had blown, speaking to Virgin Media Sport, Souness made his feelings known to those who are running the football club.
“This is rank,” Souness told Virgin Media Sport. “This is rank bad football decisions. You have players who are coming towards the end of the season and are coming out of contract. It will cause disharmony in the dressing room.
“People who are happy at the club will not like players wanting to leave. It’s natural and I just think it stinks of bad football decisions. You don’t get this in pre-season and realise you have a problem. You make your decisions now of people whose contracts that are running out in two years time. So, you don’t find yourself in this [mess].
“You create all unrest for a few quid!? And this guy [Levy] is meant to be seen as a smart operator? Sorry, he’s not. They don’t win anything. I would put the finger of blame on the people who make the footballing decisions.”
There’s no doubt that all that off-field talk during the summer transfer window has had a very negative impact on the team.
If Spurs are unable to get back on track then they will be facing an early exit in the Champions League, and they will also be questioning whether they will finish in the top-four this term.
