Liverpool and Everton are reportedly interested in signing Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the summer transfer window.

Jordan Pickford may be playing for a team struggling in the Premier League, but there can be no doubt that the Sunderland goalkeeper is one of the best in his position in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has already established himself as a key player for the Black Cats and is playing regularly at the moment.

The England Under-21 custodian has featured in 17 Premier League matches for Sunderland so far this season, keeping two clean sheets in the process.

Pickford’s performances have seen linked with moves away from Sunderland in the summer transfer window.

According to The Telegraph, Liverpool are interested the youngster in the summer transfer window, while The Express has credited Everton with an interest in the goalkeeper.

Former Liverpool and Rangers midfielder Graeme Souness believes that Pickford should not leave Sunderland at the end of the season.

“It’s no good of him going to a big club and being number two to someone,” said Souness about Pickford on Sky Sports 1 last Sunday afternoon (March 5, 2017) in the build-up to the Premier League game between Sunderland and Manchester City at the Stadium of Light. “I would be happy for him to stay here if I was advising him. He has got to play games.”

While Souness does made a valid point about the need for Pickford to play games, one should ask whether the youngster would be willing to play in the Championship.

There is a very good chance that Sunderland could get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.

Would Pickford be happy to spend a season in the Championship? Wouldn’t it be better if the goalkeeper moves to a club in the Premier League and compete for a spot in the first team?
