Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen was left on the bench again by Mauricio Pochettino yesterday.

Eriksen was left out of Tottenham’s starting line-up for their match against Newcastle United yesterday, and the decision backfired.
Spurs were very poor, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Steve Bruce’s side.
Tottenham missed their main creator during the game, and Souness has a theory behind why the £50 million creator (Telegraph) may be being left out.
“I’m a big fan. I’m trying to think if I’m in the situation, am I having a chat with the chairman saying I want to play him. Is he under orders, or is he being asked not to play him,” Souness questioned.
“You want your best players on the pitch, this is not a new problem or a one off problem for Tottenham.
“They need someone who can look forward, they need a door opener. Other than Eriksen I don’t see anyone who’s good at that.”
It seems unlikely that Pochettino is being told not to use Eriksen, as the Dane started for Tottenham just last weekend against Manchester City.

Eriksen’s poor performance against City is more likely to have been the reason why Pochettino decided to use other options ahead of him.
However, Spurs have seen before that they struggle to break teams who sit in deep against them when Eriksen doesn’t play.
The playmaker was brought on just after the hour mark for Tottenham, but he failed to influence the game enough.
Whether Eriksen will be at Tottenham beyond the end of the month now remains to be seen.
