Newcastle United have completed three signings so far this summer.

Graeme Souness has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 19th July, that he is surprised Newcastle United have been so quiet in the transfer window to date.

Newcastle have only brought in three new players this summer, with Rafael Benitez frustrated with the situation.

Benitez had wanted to upgrade his first-team squad in all areas this summer, but the Magpies’ moves for new players have largely been blocked so far.

And Souness said: “He’s frustrated with the situation. I think Newcastle have to buy players. It’s a big football club, with a passionate support who are demanding.

“I don’t believe the group they have will be good enough to survive in the Premier League, the jump is enormous.

“I’m surprised there has been so little action so far.”

Newcastle did make their third signing of the summer recently, bringing in Jacob Murphy from Norwich City.

Benitez’s side also completed deals for Christian Atsu and Florian Lejeune earlier this summer.

Newcastle are expected to be active in the transfer window, right up until the close up play next month.

The Magpies realise that they have a great deal of work to do, if they are to compete back in the Premier League.

Newcastle get their season underway, when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park in August.
