Cenk Tosun came off the bench for Everton as they suffered a narrow defeat against Leicester City in the Premier League.
Graeme Souness has layed into Everton striker Cenk Tosun, who he believes isn’t value for money, following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Leicester City on New Year’s Day.
Marco Silva brought on the Turkish striker in the second half of the match and he missed a guilt-edge opportunity to level the scores for his team in stoppage time.
As reported by Sky Sports, Tosun was a big-money signing by the Toffees when he put pen-to-paper on a £27 million deal from Beskitas last January.
During his time at the club, under previous boss Sam Allardyce and now Silva, he has only found the back of the net on seven occasions.
TV pundit Souness claimed that Tosun is ‘coming short’ in what he has provided for the club since his move from Turkey to England at the start of 2018.
“Tosun, I don’t think is value for money at this present in time,” Souness told Sky Sports’ Premier League coverage of Everton v Leicester on 01/01/2019 at 2:45 pm.
“You sign someone coming from outside the UK or outside of England, you need to take a bit of time to adjust to the game then we will have a look at him. But I think it’s a year since he has been here. He’s had a good chance to see what’s needed and I think he’s coming up short.”
Over the course of this campaign, Tosun has started six Premier League matches for Silva, scoring two goals and supplying the same amount of assists.
The former Super Lig player has not scored for Everton since October when he netted during the 2-0 win against Crystal Palace on Merseyside.
Jamie Vardy scored the only goal of the match for the Foxes in the second half when a Michael Keane error allowed the opposition striker through on goal.
