Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane will be aiming to be the top marksman in England’s top-flight once again.
Graeme Souness has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has taken the art of penalty taking to ‘another level’.
Over the weekend, Kane netted from the spot as Spurs recorded a 2-2 draw against their North London rivals at the Emirates Stadium.
The penalty was awarded after Granit Xhaka fouled Son Heung-min in a reckless manner, as Kane dispatched the spot-kick passed Leno with absolute ease.
Speaking to Sky Sports Premier League (01/09/2019 at 6:45 pm), Souness believes if players are now not ‘finding the side netting’ when taking a spot-kick then it’s ‘not a great penalty’.
“It used to be put it [the penalty] in the corner,” Souness told Sky Sports PL. “Harry’s taken it to another level. If you’re not finding the side netting, it’s not a great penalty.
“And he smashes it [past Leno]. It’s not just a dink in there. He’s smashed it.”
There are a number of high-quality penalty takers in the Premier League, but they all have their own unique styles which they are comfortable with.
A player like Kane would constantly hit that side netting, whilst a Jamie Vardy likes to go straight down the middle and smash the ball into the back of the net with all his power.
Nonetheless, Kane is currently on international duty with England, where Gareth Southgate’s side will be preparing for qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo.
