Graeme Souness told Sky Sports during their live coverage of Southampton’s defeat at Elland Road on Tuesday that reported Tottenham target Danny Ings should be at a ‘bigger club’.
The Anfield legend labelled the former Liverpool striker as an ‘outstanding’ player with Manchester City also hunting for his signature alongside Tottenham, according to The Athletic.
Ings didn’t start Southampton’s latest defeat, but the Englishman has netted eight league goals for a team sliding down the table.
But with the likes of Spurs and those running away with the league seemingly vying for his signature, Souness thinks Ings is once again capable of making that step up.
“Ings is an outstanding striker to have,” said Souness. “Top goalscorer. Eight league goals. I like him.
“He has the quality to be at a bigger football club than Southampton with all due respect, so they should be grateful that they have got him.”

When Ings made the step up to Liverpool, it resulted in him making several visits to the treatment room.
That, in turn, ruined his chances of being successful on Merseyside, but since then, he has shown, both for the Saints and for England. that he’s ready for a club in Europe again.
At this moment in time, Spurs are in the Europa League, but not sitting in those European places, so if those in North London want to hunt down the big boys in the summer then they need to get their own house in order first.
