Daniel Sturridge was selected to start for Liverpool against Newcastle United yesterday.

Sturridge looked well off the pace for Liverpool, after being handed a rare start against Newcastle United yesterday.
The England international was given the nod ahead of Roberto Firmino, but he failed to impress at St. James’ Park.
And Souness believes that Sturridge simply isn’t training properly at Liverpool.

“There was no cuteness in his game that you normally associate with him,” the Sky Sports pundit said.
“I thought he looked laboured, he looked off the pace and I don’t think he can train and prepare properly. That’s maybe the single biggest reason why he keeps getting injury after injury.
“Today he looked like a player that hadn’t trained properly and prepared for his opportunity. It might be a month or another six weeks before Jurgen Klopp goes with him again. I thought he was so disappointing today. If everything is right with Sturridge, he is one of the first names on the team-sheet but looking at him today, he was miles away.”

Liverpool could only pick up a 1-1 draw with Newcastle yesterday, with their defensive problems coming back to haunt them.
Philippe Coutinho curled in a beauty to put Liverpool in-front, but they could not hold on to their lead, due to their failings at the back.
Newcastle hit an equaliser through Joselu, and they then largely managed to cope with Liverpool’s attacking threat well.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are now in seventh place in the Premier League table, and are already playing catch up with the league leaders.
