Rangers brought goalkeeper Allan McGregor back to Ibrox this summer.

Rangers youth goalkeeping coach Graeme Smith has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he thinks Allan McGregor has been ‘really impressive’.
With Rangers bringing in 15 signings over the course of the summer to boost Steven Gerrard’s squad, it was imperative that experience of Scottish football was added to ease the transition.
One of the first signings of the Gerrard era was goalkeeper McGregor, as he returned to Ibrox having allowed his Hull City contract to expire at the end of last season.
The 36-year-old came up through the Rangers ranks and made almost 300 appearances before leaving for Besiktas in 2012 upon Rangers’ demotion and liquidation.
Now back with the Gers, McGregor has been outstanding between the sticks for Gerrard, serving a key role in the club’s qualification for the Europa League group stage and making a string of saves against Celtic last weekend.
McGregor has impressed many, and Rangers youth goalkeeping coach Graeme Smith has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he thinks McGregor has been ‘really impressive’ this season and is a ‘very high calibre goalkeeper’.

Smith, a former Rangers goalkeeper himself who backed up McGregor at Ibrox, believes that it will be a successful season for Rangers if McGregor can continue his form, underlining just why many believe the veteran goalkeeper was Gerrard’s most important signing this summer.
“He knows what he needs to be able to perform on a matchday and he has certainly been doing that so far. There are three games a week when you are in Europe and Allan has been really impressive and consistent so far,” said Smith. “Some of the saves he has made already have been terrific. If you don’t lose goals, you don’t lose games and he is very hard to beat because he is a very high calibre goalkeeper.”
“Between him and the other additions to the squad, there is a foundation there for the team and they will only get better together. He knows what the club is all about, the fans know what they are getting and the manager knows what he is getting. It is great to see him back at Rangers and I am sure he will continue that form throughout the season. If he does, hopefully it will be a successful one for the club,” he added.
