Graeme Murty is still to keen to deploy a Rangers diamond at Ibrox.
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has told the club’s official website that he wants to remould new signing Greg Docherty in order to help him adjust to his favoured diamond formation.
Murty gave 21-year-old midfielder Docherty his first start in a Light Blue shirt on Sunday, as he partnered fellow January recruit Sean Goss in the middle of the park during the 6-1 Scottish Cup victory.
The Gers manager used a diamond system with Josh Windass and Jamie Murphy also in midfield while another January loan signing, Jason Cummings, partnered Alfredo Morelos up top in a convincing win at Somerset Park.
But Murty still believes the diamond formation needs work, and stated that he is to work with new signing Docherty in order to help him adjust to the system sooner rather than later.
“It worked as a diamond in the fact of that we got our full-backs high, we kept the ball and Jason and Alfredo got chances, but we need to do more work on their build-up, on their runs and their movement,” Murty said.
“We also need to do work with Greg on his understanding of the outside of the diamond and how we’d like to play it.
“I thought Sean and Greg looked better as a two rather than Sean just sitting on his own, because that allows Greg to see the game in front of him.”
Docherty will be hoping he has done enough to remain in Murty’s starting line-up as the Gers go up against his former side Hamilton in the Scottish Premiership at the New Doulgas stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Hamilton beat the Gers last time out, earning a 2-0 win at Ibrox in which Docherty played 84 minutes for the Accies, but he will be looking to help his new side overturn the result this weekend.
