Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers eased into the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup, and Graeme Murty suggests Jamie Murphy will only get better after his showing.
Rangers boss Graeme Murty has joked to The Record that he was planning to mock Jamie Murphy prior to his goal in Sunday’s 6-1 demolition of Ayr United.

Alfredo Morelos cancelled out Alan Forrest’s shock opener to make it 1-1 at the break, before the Gers stepped it up a level and scored three times in the space of six second-half minutes to make it 4-1.
Josh Windass picked up his second of the afternoon on 81 minutes to emphasise the scoreline, before Murphy added a sixth late on for what was his first goal since joining the Ibrox club on loan from Brighton last month.
The 28-year-old winger set up Rangers’ second and fourth goal of the day, and Murty claims that there is plenty more to come from the former Premier League winger.
He told The Record: “I was going to give Jamie Murphy a load of stick because the only thing missing from his game was a goal.
“He was outstanding. He gives us understanding, quality and incredible work rate even though he’s not fully fit yet. There’s more to come from him and the squad.”
A player like Murphy can be a massive asset to Murty’s side in the second half of the campaign and fans will be hoping that the 43-year-old can get the very best out of him.
Winning the Premiership is a write-off and has been for some time, but the Scottish Cup represents a realistic target for Rangers and an in-form Murphy can go a long way to helping his boyhood club win the competition.
