Glasgow Rangers’ search for their next manager took some incredible twists this week, with Graeme Murty now in charge at Ibrox until the end of the year.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Graeme Murty has told Rangers’ official YouTube channel that he was not expecting to be doing the press conference ahead of the Gers’ clash with Ross County this weekend, but insisted that he has told the players that there are no excuses despite the manager situation at Ibrox.

Despite it looking likely for most of the week that Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes would be taking the job at Ibrox, there was a dramatic twist on Thursday with the Dons boss deciding to stay at Pittodrie, prompting Rangers to quickly respond by giving Murty the job until at least the end of the calendar year.

Murty would be forgiven for being taken aback by the whole situation. But while he admitted that he was surprised to still be in charge of the first-team at this stage, he insisted that the players should not be distracted from tomorrow’s game at Ibrox.

“I didn’t think I’d be sitting here today, but I am. I said exactly the same to the players – we have no excuses going forward, this is the reality of the situation. We deal with it, we move on,” he told the club’s official YouTube channel.

Murty will certainly be hoping that the players are not distracted as they should have a lot of momentum after their last two results. Beating Aberdeen in successive games has left the Gers second in the Scottish Premiership.

With situation coming to a head over just a couple of days, it would not be a surprise if the players were not too fazed by the situation as, with Murty getting the job until the end of the year, there is arguably the most certainty and clarity surrounding the situation than there has been since Pedro Caixinha departed towards the end of October.
