Rangers’ Head Development Squad Coach, Graeme Murty, has revealed to The Scottish Sun the conversation he had with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers last season.

Murty was in charge of Rangers for the Scottish Premiership game against Old Firm rivals Celtic at Celtic Park on March 12, 2017.

The 42-year-old was then the caretaker-manager of the Gers following the departure of Mark Warburton, who is now the manager of Nottingham Forest in the Championship in England.

Celtic headed into the match as strong favourites and were expected to pick up all three points with ease.

However, against all the odds, Rangers held the Hoops to a 1-1 draw at Celtic Park in the Old Firm derby.

Stuart Armstrong put Rodgers’s team in the lead after 35 minutes, and Clint Hill restored parity for the Ibrox outfit just three minutes before full time.

Murty, who is now the Head Development Squad Coach at Rangers, has revealed the discussion he had with Rodgers after the match.

“I have known Brendan for years,” Murty told The Scottish Sun. “I sat down and had a good chat with him. We didn’t have a glass of wine. We sat in his office and had a pie!

“Speaking about the game and just having a chat with him was great. It was a good ending to a fantastic day.

“We sat and talked dispassionately about it and then about Scottish football as a whole. It was interesting to have that chat with him.”
