Steven Gerrard’s predecessor at Ibrox led the Rangers Reserves to victory on Monday.

Graeme Murty has praised the contribution made by three of Rangers’ first-team players after his Reserves side beat Hibernian 3-2 on Monday afternoon.
Glenn Middleton, Lassana Coulibaly and Matt Polster each dropped down from Steven Gerrard’s side to help to combat an experienced away side at Rangers’ Hummel Training Centre.
Nevertheless, the Gers found themselves two goals down inside 10 minutes, but fought back to win the contest courtesy of goals from Middleton (two) and Stephen Kelly.
Asked for his verdict on trio afterwards, the second-string boss, Murty, told Rangers TV: “I thought they were great.
“Obviously, Glenn got two goals. Lass is an absolute monster, for such a young man he’s a monster of a guy. He’s so affable and he’s so self-deprecating but he’s in the team and I thought he won his physical battle in there and he gave us a platform, I thought, to play from. Matt, obviously, did the same and he gave us a bit of stability.
“We changed our shape to go and match them up because they started really well but once we did that, guys all over the pitch took their lead and stepped for on to their opponent and more than matched them and I thought it was a proper test, a proper tussle.”

The result leaves Rangers’ Reserves firmly in the title race with three games left to play – and it is likely that Murty will hope for more help from above in those fixtures.
Middleton and Coulibaly were regulars under Gerrard in the first half of this season, but have found their opportunities limited since the turn of the year.
