Glasgow Rangers booked their place in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup with a win on Sunday.

Rangers’ interim boss Graeme Murty has heaped praise upon Kenny Miller and Clint Hill following their Scottish Cup win over Morton and told the club’s official website that the latter sets the standard at Ibrox.

Report discloses how Rangers players reacted to Mark Warburton’s departure

Murty was placed in temporary charge following Mark Warburton’s departure last week, and he may have perhaps been hoping that the Gers could put in the kind of display that sends a message to the hierarchy should he want the job on a permanent basis.

However, things did not go exactly to plan early on as their Championship opponents silenced Ibrox with the opener inside the first seven minutes.

Luckily, the Light Blues turned the game on its head with Miller and Martyn Waghorn scoring to send the Scottish Premiership side into the last eight of the competition.

And following the win, Murty – whose previous role saw him work closely with the club’s youth set-up – praised two of the side’s veterans – who boast a combined age of 75 – for the impact they continue to have on the team.

“He’s [Miller] a real vocal person in the changing room and I was really pleased to see [the ball] drop to his foot. Not as pleased as I was to see it go in the goal, but he’s been good all season long and I thought at the other end Clint again sets the standard with his talking and his organisational skills,” he told the club’s official website.

“Those are the guys that are balanced, those are the guys who are emotionally in control.

“They don’t go too high and they don’t go too low, they are able to regulate that really well and some of the younger players, the 20s that I work with regularly and some of the younger players in this squad, they need to look at those guys and take that on board, how they do that and then still go and perform at a high level, because that is key in this game.”

Miller continues to roll back the years with his performances this season. He has scored eight times in 30 games in all competitions and leads the club’s scoring charts in the top flight.

Meanwhile, it is perhaps fair to say that Hill has been Rangers’ most reliable defender over the course of the season, and he will definitely be a useful member of the team during this current period of uncertainty.
