Glasgow Rangers got back to winning ways, beating Aberdeen 3-0 at Ibrox with a number of players starring.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Graeme Murty has told Sky Sports’ live post-match coverage of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership clash with Aberdeen (broadcast on 29th November 2017 from 19:30) that he thought that Ross McCrorie was outstanding in the Gers’ win at Ibrox.

Rangers got back to winning ways after suffering back-to-back defeats as they thrashed Derek McInnes’ men 3-0 thanks to a brace from James Tavernier and a goal from Carlos Pena.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers vies with Jack Aitchison of Celtic during The Scottish FA Youth Cup Final between Celtic and Rangers at Hampden Park on April 26, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

It was yet another sensational display from McCrorie, who moved out of the defence and occupied a holding midfield role to fairly devastating effect with the teenager excelling in the middle of the park. And after the victory, Murty could not praise the teenager any higher.

“I thought he was outstanding – his reading of the game, his use of the ball, his general athleticism to get around the pitch when we needed him,” he told Sky Sports’ live post-match coverage of Rangers’ clash with Aberdeen (broadcast on 29th November 2017 from 19:30).

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“I thought for a man of those young years to show that maturity; and that performance bodes really well for the future so we have to make sure that we pat him on the head, tell him well done and get him prepped and ready for a big game coming on the weekend.”

While he did not get onto the scoresheet, it was arguably McCrorie’s presence and performance that allowed Tavernier to score the third goal as the right-back was able to get himself in the six-yard box without worrying whether there was sufficient cover should the Dons break.

And it is yet another clear indication that McCrorie will soon be, if he is not already, a key man for the Rangers side, capable of rivalling some much more experienced players for a place in central defence and now staking a claim to be considered as a genuine contender to feature in that holding midfield position.

And what may give Rangers fans the most optimism was how McCrorie stepped up for one of the biggest games of the Gers’ season, suggesting that he is ready to take his game to another level when the pressure really is on.
