Glasgow Rangers got back to winning ways at Ibrox, but it was not all positive news for Graeme Murty’s men.

Morelos was handed his sixth caution of the campaign during the 4-0 win that lifted the Gers back up to second in the Scottish Premiership as the referee viewed his collision with Dee goalkeeper Elliot Parish as a dive from the striker – despite the stopper then having to be replaced due to a facial injury picked up in the clash.

And after the game, Murty insisted that he was baffled by the decision from the referee and explained how Morelos had reacted to the yellow card which now rules him out of one league game.
“I’ve yet to see a player dive when there’s contact made. It’s unfortunate for the goalkeeper, we wish him well but it’s a ridiculous decision in my opinion. There’s a guy sitting about six rows behind me telling me to grow a pair and get onto the pitch and tell the referee exactly what I think, but I’m going to do is get myself into trouble,” he told the club’s official website.

“We’ll have words behind closed doors. All I’m going to do is conduct myself as I believe a Rangers manager should on the sideline, but when we get in and chat to them, we’ll put our views forward in a forthright manner and leave them in no doubt that we disagree with it in the strongest possible terms. Alfredo’s gutted in there, because we’re going to miss him for a game now and I thought it was nothing less than a joke.”
With Morelos now suspended for a game, the caution would have taken some of the shine off of what was an extremely encouraging performance from Rangers after a run of two defeats and one draw in their last three games.
Morelos had not been in the best form heading into the contest, but he did move himself to within one goal of Kris Boyd at the top of the Premiership’s scoring charts with his strike against Neil McCann’s men ahead of the split.
The youngster will be available for the Gers’ next game however, as Murty’s men switch their focus to the semi-final of the Scottish Cup where they will be hoping to finally end their wait for a win against their bitter rivals and book their place in the final in the process.
