Graeme Murty’s Glasgow Rangers won against Partick Thistle at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.
Alves, who joined Rangers in the summer transfer window, started the Scottish Premiership game at Ibrox on the substitutes’ bench.
Ross McCrorie was picked ahead of the Portugal international centre-back, and the 19-year-old played well.
The Scotland Under-21 international gave a good account of himself at the back and also scored to help the Gers to a 3-0 win against Thistle at Ibrox.
Alves is one of the most experienced players in the current Rangers squad and is arguably the most high-profile footballer at the club.
Rangers caretaker-manager Murty has revealed that he spoke to the 35-year-old former FC Porto and Zenit Saint Petersburg star about his decision, and has explained how the defender took it.
“I spoke to Bruno before the game and on Friday morning before I named the team,” Murty told STV. “I said I thought they played really well and deserved the chance to do it again. He was very respectful and understood the decision.
“I’m a big believer of dealing with the men in there as men and explaining things to them – sitting down and being open and honest with them. And he was open and honest with me. I think you can move forward on that basis.”
Rangers are fourth in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 24 points from 12 matches.
