New Rangers Head Development Squad coach Graeme Murty has told the club’s official website that he was advised by Norwich City manager Alex Neil to take the job.
Murty was appointed to the role last week, replacing Ian Durant, who left Ibrox at the end of last season.
He arrives from Championship side Norwich, with whom he led the Under 18 side to the quarterfinals of FA Youth Cup last season.
Norwich manager Alex Neil
It is hope he can help the club to develop its youngsters into first team stars of the future.
And he has explained that Canaries boss Alex Neil expressly told him that he had to make the move.
“Talking to Alex Neil at Norwich he said ‘When the Old Firm come in for you they don’t come twice. You have to go and take it,’” he told the club’s official website.
“The people at Norwich said to me that I must go and take it. I have to go and immerse myself in the culture and really get used to what it means to be a part of Rangers Football Club.”
Rangers’ manager Mark Warburton
It now remains to be seen if Murty can help to develop the next group of youngsters to become stars for Rangers in future.
They certainly have a chance, with manager Mark Warburton showing in his time at the club so far that he is willing to give youth a chance.
Barry McKay was one player who flourished after being given his chance to impress, and Murty will be hoping he can develop the next players to make that step up.
