Glasgow Rangers take on Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox on Wednesday.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Graeme Murty has confirmed to Rangers’ official YouTube channel that Bruno Alves will return to Rangers’ squad for their home clash with Aberdeen on Wednesday, but Alfredo Morelos is facing a race against time to be fit for the Scottish Premiership game.

Morelos had to be taken off in stoppage-time at the end of the first-half of the Gers’ trip to Dundee on Friday, while Alves has not played for the side since Pedro Caixinha’s final game in charge at Ibrox, with a back injury keeping him out of the last few games (via Rangers’ official Twitter account).

But Murty has confirmed that the Portuguese will be involved in the matchday squad against the Dons – though he insisted that it was too soon for a decision to be made on Morelos’ chances of featuring.

“Bruno’s fit. Bruno’s available for selection,” he told Rangers’ official YouTube channel.

“Yeah,” he replied, when asked if he will return to the squad.

“Alfredo at the moment is under the care of our physios. He took a really nasty bang to his iliac crest. He’s got a lot of swelling in that area. He’s very sore, and it’s too soon to make a decision on him but we’ll be making a decision on him closer to the time.”

It would undoubtedly provide a major boost for Rangers if Morelos is back in time for the game, though Murty’s comments hint that he is currently doubtful. While he has gone a significant amount of time without scoring a goal, his performances have often still been impressive, with his work-rate in particular leading to a number of chances for his teammates.

Meanwhile, Alves’ return has come at a welcome time. The centre-back pairing from the last four games, Danny Wilson and Ross McCrorie have had a mixed run playing alongside each other, and will undoubtedly be disappointed with the goals that they have conceded in the Gers’ last two games, so Alves’ return should hand the Light Blues an important lift.
