Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers are yet to appoint their new permanent manager.
Rangers caretaker manager Graeme Murty said he felt “surreal” when he heard his name being mentioned for the full-time role at the Ibrox club.
Murty had put himself in the frame for the permanent manager job with two back to back wins, but the shock 2-0 defeat against Hamilton may have ruined his chances.
The 43-year-old said that he is grateful to Rangers for offering him the chance to help the club, as he didn’t expect it at the first place.
“Hearing my name being mentioned for the full time job is surreal,” said Murty, as quoted by the Sunday Mail (printed edition; 19th November, page – 65). It’s way out there but I can only deal in realities. The fact that the club have asked me to help for a second time is beyond my wildest dreams.”
Rangers sacked Pedro Caixinha after a poor run of results during his seven months in charge. Murty emerged as one of the favourites to succeed him. However, he claimed that he couldn’t afford to think of it after Accies secured their first league victory at Ibrox since 1926.
“It will or it won’t, he added. I can’t really have a thought about that. That’s just noise around our performance.
“What we managed to do is get the players focused and ready for the performance. The performance didn’t give us the three points.
“That’s all I can worry about and I’m going to look on Monday and make sure, if I’m in post, the players learn the lessons from this and that they get a good week’s training and go and put things right.”
The Gers were very busy in the summer transfer window with Caixinha making wholesome changes to his squad.
However, Rangers find themselves fourth in the Scottish Premier League, behind Aberdeen and Hibernian. The Gers are already nine points behind arch-rivals Celtic, with the Bhoys having a game in hand.
