Glasgow Rangers made it back to back wins in the Scottish Premiership to leave the Ibrox side second in the table.
The Light Blues moved themselves up to second in the table as they sealed back to back wins over Derek McInnes’ men by beating the Dons 2-1 at Pittodrie just a handful of days after beating the same opposition 3-0 at Ibrox.
The clash may well be Murty’s last of his second spell as caretaker with the Daily Express reporting that an approach for McInnes may now be on the cards. And perhaps sensing that he may not be in caretaker charge for much longer, Murty took the opportunity to pay tribute to the supporters.
“I think it’s important you recognise that as well, coming all the way up here into a hostile environment and going and cheering your heart out for the team. I think they contribute so much to what makes this team great.”
If the game does prove to be Murty’s last as caretaker, then it is surely likely that the 43-year-old’s second tenure will be remembered extremely fondly.
The Gers have secured four wins out of six since Pedro Caixinha was dismissed, and few would have expected after defeats to Hamilton and Dundee that they would take six points out of six from the two games with the Dons.
And while not everything has gone to plan on the pitch, there can surely be no doubt that Murty has conducted himself admirably in difficult circumstances and leaves the Gers – if he is no longer needed as first-team boss – in a much better position than when he took over.
