Rangers manager Graeme Murty is delighted to be made permanent manager at Ibrox
Graeme Murty has been speaking about his emotions after being appointed as Rangers manager until the end of the season.
Rangers announced the move on Friday, with the team sitting third in the Premiership. Murty has steadied the ship since Pedro Caixinha’s turbulent spell in charge.
He said: “I’m nervous, excited, and a little awestruck. I’m grateful to the board for the opportunity, I’m desperate to repay their faith, and I really want to crack on with it now and see if we can have a brilliant second half of the season.
“I spoke with Stewart [Robinson] last night, speaking about structures, targets, and the squad, he said the board would want me to move into role moving forward. It didn’t take me very long at all to say yes.”
Murty’s appointment erases some of the uncertainty around Rangers heading into the transfer window, which has to be a positive for the club.
A lack of track record as a manager makes him an underwhelming appointment, but with the club making their move ‘just’ to the end of the season, he is under pressure to prove his worth.
He recently led the side to back to back wins over Aberdeen, managed by Derek McInnes, who Rangers originally wanted to bring in as manager, and that will give him confidence while the loss to St Johnstone ensures he does not get carried away.
