Rangers defender Matt Polser was in action earlier today.
Rangers reserves beat their Celtic counterparts 2-0 this afternoon, with Glenn Middleton bagging a brace in a fine victory for Graeme Murty’s men.
The Gers didn’t have a first-team fixture this week given that they were already out of the Scottish Cup, but some players got a run-out today.
The two teams travelled to Firhill for today’s game, and whilst bragging rights in a reserves game won’t mean much, it’s always good to win an Old Firm game at any level.
First team winger Middleton continued his stunning form for the reserves with a brace, scoring his first shortly after half time.
Middleton added a second in injury time, giving Rangers the 2-0 victory, and whilst Middleton will grab all the headlines, it was also a great chance for Matt Polster to play.
The January signing from Chicago Fire has yet to make a first-team appearance for Rangers, but is building up his fitness levels in the reserves ahead of hopefully featuring in the first team.
Now, boss Murty has told Rangers TV that he wanted to give special mention to Polster, believing the American showed the younger players how to conduct themselves on the pitch, in words that Steven Gerrard will love.
“I have to make special mention of Matt Polster,” said Murty. “Matt, as a first-team player coming down, set a good example for the younger players of how to conduct himself on the pitch,” he added.
Not many Rangers fans saw the game, but some of those who did took to Twitter to praise the utility man, feeling he did well and controlled the game, adding that he won battles to help Rangers claim the victory.
