Rangers development coach Graeme Murty has told The Herald he was stunned to receive praise from chairman Dave King at the club’s AGM earlier this season.

King removed Murty as manager at Ibrox last year, replacing him with Steven Gerrard.

Murty went back to his old academy job, and has had a superb year coaching up the Rangers youngsters.

Speaking to The Herald, Murty said he was surprised to receive glowing recognition publicly from King at the Rangers AGM, who referred to him as his ‘man of the year’.

He said: “I appreciated that sentiment. It certainly took me by surprise. That statement meant a great deal to me and it has meant a lot going forward.

“Working for this magnificent football club, I feel at peace and that I am in the right place but I am at my best servicing the players. They are grown significantly and we are making great strides. But they need my focus for the rest of the season.”
