Here we take a closer look at Leicester City defender Harry Maguire.
The 24-year-old was the standout performer during Hull City’s relegation campaign and has continued to impress since his Leicester switch, despite their disappointing start to the season.
Maguire was thrown in at the deep end by the random fixture generator, which handed his new partnership with Wes Morgan tests against four of last season’s top six in their opening six games.
Leicester’s only league win in August and September came at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, when Maguire was on the scoresheet, but his confidence was not knocked by the poor results.
Still the former Sheffield United youngster would back his skill set to offer Leicester something different at the back, a defender who could bring the ball out with great power and composure.
Maguire has fallen on his sword once or twice, giving away a goal in the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool, but he does not usually let his ball-playing skills compromise his strong and robust defending.
Gareth Southgate has identified this combination as suitable for his England back three, and Maguire’s early international performances have put him firmly in the frame for World Cup selection.
According to BBC Sport, Maguire cost Leicester £17m from Hull, and he is looking worthy of every penny.
