Ian Wright couldn’t help but aim a jibe at Tottenham when talking about Arsenal potentially winning the League Cup this season, as he told Premier League Productions.

Presenter Manish Bhasin asked the former striker whether these young Arsenal players will gain ‘confidence’ by getting closer to silverware this term.

But the Highbury legend was quick to point out that several of these Arsenal players have ‘won stuff’ and that he is getting the Gunners ‘confused with Spurs’.

Mikel Arteta’s side are in League Cup action on Tuesday night when they take on League One side, Sunderland.

The winner will progress through to the semi-final stages and there’s no reason why Arteta’s men shouldn’t see this through.

This is what Bhasin first asked Wright about Arsenal possibly winning the League Cup, before he issued his response.

“They have a League Cup tie against Sunderland, in the Quarter-finals,” said Manish Bhasin. “There are no holders in Manchester City in the tie, at this stage now.

“Is this a good chance for these youngsters to get a step closer to some silverware just for their confidence?”

Wright responded: “You say that, but a lot of these guys have been involved with Arsenal when they have won stuff.

“You might have got us confused with Spurs there, for a second. If these bunch of guys can do something together and then continue to stay in the top four. Of course, that’s what Arsenal need.”

Arteta has proven before that he can win silverware in north London and he has a great chance of adding another to his collection.

Whilst it’s not the end goal and what the Arsenal fans desire the most, it’s more than a starting point.

It’s more signs of progression and more signs that Arteta should be trusted with the job he is doing.

Not only can Arsenal win a domestic trophy this term, but as they sit in fourth spot, they will be backing themselves to return to Champions League football also.
