Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Kevin Campbell has been discussing Arsenal’s squad after their return from World Cup action and William Saliba.
The French defender, of course, has spent the last month in Qatar as France reached the World Cup final, but sadly, he didn’t play as much as he’d have liked at the World Cup.
Saliba was a fringe player for France, and now, Campbell believes that the player will come back to north London with a point to prove, stating that he needs to make sure that his name is on everyone’s mind going forwards so that he can work his way into the France XI.

Saliba has a point to prove
Campbell discussed the centre-half.
“I think Saliba has a big point to prove as well. A big point,” Campbell said.
“The players who played are ahead of him in the hierarchy in the squad, but the reason he didn’t play is because he’s not winning and he’s got to win. Go back and win, keep performing, keep getting Player of the Month, keep doing well. Let Deschamps to keep looking over and make sure that Saliba is on everybody’s lips. That’s important as a young player.”
Time on his side
Saliba does have a point to prove in that he needs to show that he’s worthy of starting for France, but he does have time on his side.
Indeed, with the Euros 18 months away, Saliba has plenty of time to show Didier Deschamps that he’s worthy of being a key player for France.
In order to do that, he just needs to carry on as he has been doing. Saliba has been one of Europe’s best defenders this season, and if he continues to play in that way, it will be impossible to overlook him for the next international tournament.
