Speaking on the Studs Up podcast, former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has discussed Harry Kane’s future at the club, claiming that he needs to have a conversation with Daniel Levy.
The striker is having one of the best seasons of his career, but the fact of the matter is that it looks likely that he still won’t be coming away with any major honours, despite the fact Tottenham have a Carabao Cup final on the horizon.
Sherwood believes that Kane needs to have a word with the chairman and the manager about the club’s ambition.
“I think my advice would be that he’s got to speak to Daniel Levy. He’s got to speak to Jose who’s the manager at the moment, and see if the ambition of the club and the manager matches his ambition.” Sherwood said.
“He obviously wants to win something, he doesn’t want an empty career, I think those are Jose’s words. Charlie’s absolutely right, no matter where he plays, he could go to Southampton or Palace, with respect, and still beat Alan Shearer’s record.”
Again, this all comes down to what Kane wants his legacy to be.
If Kane spends the rest of his career at Tottenham he will probably go down as the club’s greatest ever player, he’d likely have a statue built at the stadium and perhaps a stand would be named after him.
However, if he stays at Spurs, there’s a very real chance that he retires without ever winning a trophy, which would be a massive shame for a player of his calibre.
Sherwood may be right, Kane needs to clear up which direction Tottenham are headed in before making what could be the biggest decision of his career.
