‘Got to go’: Neil Warnock claims player Newcastle want to sign would shine at Man City

Neil Warnock has claimed that Tottenham midfielder and Newcastle target, Dele Alli, would be a ‘different player’ at Manchester City, as he told talkSPORT.

English football’s most experienced ever manager has also added that Alli has ‘got to go’ because he has gone backwards in Tottenham colours.

Antonio Conte left Alli out of Tottenham’s recent matchday squad and there is talk that the likes of Newcastle are keen to sign him up before the January deadline, as reported by the Daily Mail.

With less than a week remaining of the window, no one has made any concrete moves for Alli, as Spurs are clearly ready to move him on.

But will Newcastle jump in for the faltering former England star before Monday’s cut-off point?

Well, wherever the player ends up, Warnock thinks that Alli would showcase his true worth at Man City and explained why it’s not working for him in north London.

“He has got to go,” said Warnock. “When you look at Dele Alli, if you look at him, in Manchester City’s team, then you would see a different player.

“You need a decent backline to start with. Tottenham haven’t had a decent backline.

“They are having to fight for everything. And that’s not his game. I think because they aren’t good enough at the back, then I think it opens it up for all the positions.

“But that’s why he has to go. He will find somewhere. He is a good player when he is on it. But he has just gone backwards.”

Jose Mourinho’s words of advice and warning to Alli during Tottenham’s All or Nothing documentary might be something that will haunt him for a very long time.

There is no doubt that Alli has time to turn around his sinking ship, but he’s not going to do it at Spurs.

If he does move, and it continues to go wrong, then many will start to question if he can get the best out of his goalscoring talents again.

The key thing here is that, at this moment in time, there are teams still seemingly willing to sign him up.

Given the current road, Alli is going down, then that is only going to last for so long because he will become the forgotten man in a few years time if he doesn’t sort himself out.
