Borna Barisic was ‘extremely lucky’ to avoid a red card for Rangers today.

At least, that’s the opinion of Hearts legend John Robertson, who watched his old side lose 2-0 to Rangers at Tynecastle this afternoon.

The hosts finished the game with one player less than the Premiership champions after having Josh Ginnelly sent off following a clash with the Gers’ Croatian left-back.

Originally, Barisic was upset with a challenge by Cammy Devlin.

And prior to the Ginnelly incident, Robertson claims that the Rangers defender grabbed Devlin by the throat in what he believes should’ve represented another red card.

He told BBC Sport: “I think Barisic is extremely, extremely, lucky. The moment he grabs Devlin by the throat, for me he’s got to go.”

Barisic, a £2.2 million signing by Steven Gerrard in 2018, certainly has a wee bit of fire in him.

In most circumstances, this is a positive because it makes the Rangers star the brilliant, passionate player that he is.

But every now and again, the red mist descends and Barisic, as mentioned by Robertson, can be a bit of a liability at times.

However, he got away with it and Rangers return to Glasgow being the happier of both outfits.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are four points clear of second-placed Celtic, who edged out Motherwell in the later clash on Sunday.
