Andy Townsend has been singing the praises of Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli after his performance against West Ham United on Wednesday night.
Martinelli maintained his excellent run of form by opening the scoring against the Hammers at the Emirates Stadium.
The 20-year-old Brazilian latched on to a fine through ball from Alexandre Lacazette and casually slotted beyond Lukasz Fabianski.
Martinelli, a £6 million signing under Unai Emery in 2019, also scored a brilliant goal in a home victory over Newcastle United three weeks ago.
And Townsend has claimed that technically, the South American sensation has ‘got the lot’.
He said live on NBC Sport: “Technically he’s got the lot. His first touch is perfect. Brilliant play. He didn’t see so much of the ball in the first half, most of the play was down Arsenal’s right, but start of the second he’s got himself involved and given his team a really good lead.”
Massive talent
When the Arsenal youngster is playing like this, he genuinely is a marvellous talent for the Emirates Stadium club.
Remember, Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, labelled Martinelli a ‘talent of the century’ back in 2019 and although he has often struggled to justify that billing under Mikel Arteta, he’s certainly starting to.
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the doghouse and potentially leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations later this month, some of the goalscoring burden will fall on Martinelli.
But based on recent showings, he’s ready to shoulder that responsibility.
