Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:16pm, December 22, 2022) that Roberto Firmino suffered an injury in training, which is why he did not play against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening.
Brazil international forward Firmino did not feature for Liverpool in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup against Premier League rivals Manchester City.
Klopp has said that the £180,000-a-week (SalarySport) Liverpool forward suffered an injury in training, which is the reason why he did not play.

Klopp said before the match against City, as transcribed by The Daily Mail: “We play mainly with the players who could do all the sessions now and had a break – apart from Bobby, who unfortunately got injured two days ago in training.
“Not a big one but big enough for this period. That’s why Darwin is now starting. He could’ve started anyway but Darwin is starting now.”
Staying positive
Jurgen Klopp’s comments on the injury suffered by Roberto Firmino suggest that the Liverpool forward is not in any serious problem.
It does appear that the Firmino could be back for the Premier League match against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
Even if the 31-year-old is not deemed fit for that match, it is unlikely that he will be out for too long.
Firmino has been playing well for Liverpool this season, and his importance in the team cannot be underestimated.
The Liverpool no. 9 has scored seven goals and given three assists in 11 Premier League starts, and has scored two goals and provided one assist in four UEFA Champions League starts for Liverpool so far this season.
