Mateusz Klich has been talking about Leeds’ ambitions for the season following their 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
The Poland international told the Yorkshire Evening Post: ‘Our goal is to stay in the league. I know there are a lot of people who got carried away after a couple of games.
‘They thought we were going to challenge for the Champions League but our goal is to only stay in the league.’
Klich is sensible to speak out and reaffirm the main objective to supporters, who – understandably – could’ve been getting ahead of themselves.
A recent breathtaking win over Aston Villa, in addition to a draw against Manchester City, could’ve led some people to dream of the unthinkable this season.
That wouldn’t have been completely foolish, to be fair. You only have to look at Wolves qualifying for the Europa League in their first season back in the Premier League to see that something similar could be done by Leeds.

However, staying in the top-flight is the first, and main, objective, as Klich sensibly outlines. You cannot start thinking about the icing on the cake before you’ve baked the sponge.
Leeds have shown huge ambition with their summer business, and also when appointing Marcelo Bielsa, but the most important thing is to keep the journey going forwards by avoiding relegation.
Klich – who cost Leeds £1.5 million – is certainly doing his bit to help Leeds achieve that.

The 30-year-old has two goals and three assists to his name in eight Premier League appearances this season.
He would’ve had one more set-up to his name as well, were it not for Saturday’s incredibly harsh decision to rule out Patrick Bamford’s first goal.
