Gorka Guruzeta was reportedly watched by Tottenham Hotspur, while Newcastle United are also said to be aware of the young striker.

According to a recent report from The Sun, Tottenham were among the Premier League sides considering scouting Bilbao Athletic striker Gorka Guruzeta when his side faced Manchester United’s under-23s.

The same report from The Sun suggested that Newcastle were aware of the player and may join the chase – and based on his performance in front of the Premier League scouts, it seems a matter of time before the Magpies compete for his signature.

Guruzeta opened the scoring for the Spanish side and it was a stunning goal, as a long ball into his path was dispatched emphatically on the volley into the net from a fairly tight angle 12 yards out from goal.

It would be no surprise if the goal led to the interest in him intensifying as he also boasts a good return this term, and The Sun reports that he is out of contract at the end of the season and Premier League sides would only have to pay Athletic compensation.

Guruzeta may not be playing top flight football but his form this season and the goal against Manchester United proves that he clearly knows where the goal is, and that should make Tottenham and Newcastle sit up and take notice as they both arguably lack numbers amongst their striker options.

And with Guruzeta clearly boasting that lethal touch in front of goal and potentially available for a bargain fee, there seems little reason why Tottenham should not follow up their interest and why Newcastle should not join the chase.
