Gordon Watson has issued a stern message to Sheffield Wednesday’s chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, and manager, Jos Luhukay, after the Owls’ 2-0 defeat against Swansea City on Tuesday.

Wednesday’s injury-hit squad limped out of the FA Cup in Wales, where they never looked likely to progress once Jordan Ayew had opened the scoring nine minutes after half-time.

Nathan Dyer’s strike 10 minutes from time killed off any hope of a late Owls surge, yet despite the Championship side’s unfortunate circumstances, not to mention the higher standard of opposition, the manner of the defeat rankled with Watson – a member of the successful Wednesday team of the early 1990s.

“Will someone please inform the Chairman and current manager of Sheff Wed[‘]s DNA , pace heart flair and character #WAWAW #needacompleteclearout“, he tweeted.

Having been reminded that much of Wednesday’s first choice 11 were absent against Swansea, Watson added: “I know and there (sic) not good enough for S6 either.

“I’ve seen the 1st team and the team out there cost [eight] figures, they are not good enough.”

And the 47-year-old revealed in no uncertain terms who he believes is at fault for Sheffield Wednesday’s struggles this season, adding: “[I] 100000000000000000000% agree [the chairman is the problem]”.

Wednesday finished sixth and fourth in their previous two campaigns under Carlos Carvalhal, now the Swansea manager of course.
