Former Celtic and Scotland boss Gordon Strachan has told Sky Sports that he thinks Brendan Rodgers may not want to give up the ‘incredible’ atmosphere on European nights at Celtic Park in order to make a move to Arsenal.

The Bhoys have thrived since Rodgers replaced Ronny Deila in 2016, as they clinched an unbeaten domestic treble last season, and look set to win a seventh straight league title this season.

Celtic’s dominance of Scottish football has only grown stronger since Rodgers’ appointment, and the Northern Irishman’s reputation has been rebuilt following his move to Glasgow.

Rodgers was somewhat on the scrapheap after Liverpool sacked him in 2015, less than 18 months after the former Swansea City boss had challenged for the Premier League title with the Reds.

Now, Rodgers’ work with Celtic is set to make him a hot property this summer, especially given early speculation linking him with a move to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager this summer.

The Daily Mail report that Rodgers is one of a number of candidates to become the new Gunners manager, even if fans are a little underwhelmed given the disappointing manner in which his Liverpool reign ended.

Now, former Scotland boss Gordon Strachan has offered his view to Sky Sports, suggesting that Rodgers still has more to do with Celtic and his job isn’t done yet, opposing the opinion that Rodgers has achieved all he can with Celtic and should head back to England.

Strachan added that he thinks Rodgers may not want to give up the atmosphere of Celtic Park on major European nights in the Champions League, and thinks he may want to stay in order to play the big teams in the knockout stages of the competition before leaving.

“He’s not done all he can,” said Strachan. “If you are leaving Celtic, it has to be for a heck of a job, when you’ve got a chance to continue the success he’s enjoying at the moment. They’re in the Champions League, that’s the big bonus. I’m sure he wants to say ‘We’ve not qualified yet, I want to qualify and play the real big boys of the competition.’ That’s what Celtic gives you.”

“Okay, there are some games that are kind of academic, but you get on with it, you win. But for these nights, and these nights at Celtic Park, they’re incredible. Does he want to give it up? I don’t know about that,” he added.
