The experienced duo haven’t kicked a ball for Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers since August and September respectively.

Gordon Strachan has admitted to The Scottish Sun that he feels Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been very unlucky in not having Graham Dorrans or Jamie Murphy available this season.

Dorrans hasn’t kicked a ball for Rangers since a League Cup win over Ayr United back in September, while winger Murphy has been available since August with a knee injury.

Murphy was a huge player for the Gers during the second half of last season under Graeme Murty, while the former West Brom midfielder was excellent when fit last term.

Gerrard’s side are 10 points behind top-of-the-table Celtic and were eliminated from the Scottish Cup at the quarter-final stage by Aberdeen earlier this month, ensuring that the 37-year-old probably won’t win anything in his first season at Ibrox.

But Strachan reckons that the Rangers manager can count himself unfortunate over the long-term absence of two influential, senior players.

He told The Scottish Sun: “I think Steven’s been unfortunate with Jamie Murphy and Graham Dorrans being injured, because if those two had been fit it would’ve added more quality to the team and some of the draws they’ve had would’ve turned into wins.”

Rangers visit Strachan’s former side Celtic at Parkhead this Sunday, but even victory would make it ever so difficult to deny the Hoops from claiming an eighth successive Premiership crown.
