Gordon Strachan has criticised Celtic duo Odsonne Edouard and Ismila Soro for their actions during Saturday’s win.
John Kennedy kicked off his short-term reign as Hoops boss with a narrow 1-0 victory over Aberdeen at Parkhead yesterday.
But it could and should have been a slightly better win for Celtic, who almost doubled their lead toward the end but Edouard selfishly went for goal instead of playing in the better-placed midfielder.
There was no resentment from Soro as the Bhoys pair eventually shared a laugh over Edouard’s decision to take the shot on himself.
But Strachan, speaking to Celtic TV, wasn’t happy in the least and claims that it was no laughing matter, especially in light of Neil Lennon resigning this week.
He said: “You know talking about team spirit and being close together, I wouldn’t have been happy if I was a manager and had seen those two laughing [Soro and Edouard] at something like that.
“I would be saying to them I’ve made a 50-yard run, boost me in, we win 2-0 and then we celebrate. Then the guy who has made a mistake can take it. That’s more together than saying ‘oh here, that was unlucky, that was fine, big smiles’.”
Strachan is right.
This isn’t the same Celtic side that have dominated Scotland in every domestic competition in recent years.
This is a Celtic team that were 18 points behind Rangers prior to kickoff, a side that could’ve easily conceded late on against the Dons.
It would’ve been the story of the Hoops’ season had they been pegged back after Edouard’s selfish gesture and their former boss is right – it wasn’t funny.
