Scott Brown remains a big player for Celtic and could be one for his country next month too.
Gordon Strachan has told The Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic’s Scott Brown has the big-game mentality needed to help Scotland in upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Slovenia and Slovakia.
Strachan’s side could secure a playoff spot by beating their Group F rivals early next month to finish second.
The Celtic skipper has a big role to play for his country and reaffirmed his appetite for the big occasion with a good performance in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Old Firm rivals Rangers.
Of course, the 32-year-old also has plenty of Champions League experience at his back, and Strachan claims that he has never struggled when it comes to the pressure which goes part and parcel with the biggest matches.
“He wouldn’t be still here if he didn’t have that,” he told The Glasgow Evening Times.
“He’s got big games all the time at Celtic, that’s one thing you can guarantee, whether it’s in the league, European games, Old Firm games or whatever.
“You don’t last that long unless you can deal with big games. Some players go to Celtic and can’t deal with big games. He never had that problem.”
There’s no let-up for the Celtic midfielder, who has another huge game on the horizon.
On Wednesday, Brendan Rodgers’s side visit Anderlecht in their second Champions League game of the season, having lost 5-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the first.
It is arguably already between the Belgian outfit and the Hoops for the battle to finish third and drop into the Europa League, and a win tomorrow would certainly represent an excellent statement.
