Scotland boss Gordon Strachan has told The Daily Mail that he will be having a talk with Celtic hitman Leigh Griffiths over keeping his cool on Sunday evening.

Strachan’s side visit Slovenia in the knowledge that a victory would see them finish second in Group F in World Cup qualifying and book a World Cup playoff spot.

The Celtic striker is one of six men in the Scotland squad who go into tonight’s clash at the risk of suspension due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

Griffiths has netted three goals for his country throughout the campaign – including two against England in June – and he has been known for his over-zealous celebrations.

In addition to that, the Hoops marksman can be quite a fiery character at times and Strachan says he’ll be having a conversation with Griffiths to ensure that he keeps his cool.

“That is something I’ll have a conversation with him about,” he told The Daily Mail.

“I’ll need to have a word. But his performances of late have been terrific. I just thought he was magnificent the other night against Slovakia.”

Griffiths bagged 40 goals for Celtic during the 2015-16 campaign and missing someone of his profiency for the first leg would be a massive blow for the Scots.

But he knows how big the match is so hopefully – for his sake – he keeps his emotions in check throughout the 90 minutes.
