Former Southampton boss is out of work.

Scotland's National coach, Gordon Strachan names his squad for the forthcoming World Cup Qualifying match against England, at Hampden Park on May 22, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Gordon Strachan is in between management jobs after leaving his post as Scotland manager in the summer.

It’s unclear if he is even keen to take on another club job, but one thing he is certain of is that he does not wish to return to one of his old jobs.

Writing for Paddy Power, Strachan immediately discounts Southampton and Coventry City as roles he would consider.

He feels that they would be too far removed from what he remembers and he would prefer an altogether fresh experience.

Strachan said: “If I went back to Southampton or Coventry now, I’d know literally nobody in there, and I’d have to try and manipulate the fun and excitement.

“That’s where I have a problem with going back, even as a player.”

He added that the pressure on managers makes the job less appealing than it once was.

Strachan said: “It’s different now. Managers who go into a club and say they’ve got a plan or a project, within four games, if they’ve not won them, questions are asked – you can throw your project right out the window.”

Strachan was named yesterday as an early favourite for the Dundee job [via Scottish Sun] after Neil McCann quit the post.

This proved to be false, with Dundee hiring Jim McIntyre instead.

Strachan managed Southampton between 2001 and 2004, leading them to the FA Cup Final.

Current boss Mark Hughes is under pressure with Southampton in 16th, gaining just five points from eight games.
