The Celtic youngster lost his teeth last week but found plenty of respect from Gordon Strachan following his response to the facial injury.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has told The Telegraph that he admires the resillience of Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney.

The Hoops star is set to face England in a World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park next week despite suffering a facial injury last week.

The 19-year-old lost two teeth after catching a flailing arm from Jayden Stockley in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final.

Tierney was taken to hospital but the young star managed to make it back in time to pick up his winner’s medal after the match.

And it is that type of attitude which Strachan loves, claiming that he has a “real street mentality” with regards to football.

Kieran Tierney celebrates scoring the first goal for Celtic

“He’s got a real street mentality when it comes to playing football and he likes making tackles,” he told The Telegraph. “You can get over the pain when it comes – it’s not a long-term thing that will affect you as an ankle can.

“The teeth thing can be painful at the time but it’s not going to get any worse over time. He made it back to run up the steps and get the Scottish Cup. That’s what adrenaline does for you and we do admire that.”

Tierney is one of the hottest young players in Europe at the moment and a big performance against England next week would certainly help his stock rise a little higher, perhaps making it that bit harder for Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers to retain his services beyond this summer.
