Gordon Strachan has defended the ‘exceptional’ Scott Brown for his actions during Celtic’s 2-1 win over Rangers on Sunday and claimed he did ‘very little’ wrong.

The former manager did, however, raise a big question about striker Alfredo Morelos and whether his teammates are still with him following his sending off in the first half for elbowing Brown.

It was a game littered with talking points, flashpoints and controversial moments, with the Bhoys taking home the three points and their rivals having two men sent off, including Andy Halliday after the full-time whistle.

Speaking to Kick Off on talkSport (01/04/2019 at 8:55 pm) Strachan defended the actions of Brown and shared what he do with Morelos.

“I don’t think people are winding him up,” Strachan told talkSPORT. “I think he’s already wound up. Scott Brown ‘did this’. Scott Brown did very little! Scott Brown just stood there being Scott Brown.

“He’s an exceptional presence in a derby game. People try to intimidate him and they usually come off worse. But he has the experience.

Strachan on what he would do with Morelos: “I would say he is affecting the team. Are the teammates still with him? We had a problem at Celtic [with a certain player] and the players were getting a little restless with him. I got the group of player undecided, ‘so what do we have to do boys?’ Then they realised how important he was to them winning the league.”

When it comes to the Old Firm there was always going to be controversial moments during and after the match given the nature of the encounter.

Ahead of the split, the Glasgow duo are set to meet once again before the season draws to a close, this time they will battle it out at Ibrox. Steven Gerrard’s side triumphed last time on home soil.

Nonetheless, the result meant that Celtic are now 13 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership and it is a matter of when they will win eight-in-a-row rather than if.
