Gordon Strachan has told The Mail that Celtic ace Scott Brown does not sleep – but even if he did he wouldn’t have lost any of it over recent Paul Scholes comments.

Brown is gearing up to face England in a World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park this week as Scotland look to get one over on the old enemy.

The 31-year-old goes into the clash fresh off the back of a Scottish Cup final victory over Aberdeen as the Celtic man skippered the Bhoys to a domestic treble, without losing a match.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes made headlines at the weekend by suggesting that Brown – who has won 13 major trophies in his 10-year spell at Parkhead – would not be as influential in the Premier League as he has been in Scotland’s top flight.

Asked by The Mail if Brown would have lost any sleep over the former midfielder’s opinion, the Scotland boss said: “Honestly, I don’t think the man sleeps but if he did he wouldn’t have lost any of it. I don’t think it’ll have bothered him one little bit.

“It’s like the Player of Year awards and people were asking if he would have been upset. I think he would have been delighted.

“It meant he didn’t need to sit in front of the media and talk, or get dressed up for a ball.

“There is so much talk in football. I’m the lucky one, I get to work with these people.”

Brown is clearly a top-class midfielder in his own right and whether he would succeed in England is irrelevant. The fact is he has thrived for many years with Celtic in Scotland and he will one day look back on his career with immense pride.
