As we approach the run-in Leeds United are vying for promotion from the Championship with 10 other teams.
Yet another rollercoaster season at Elland Road has seen comings and goings aplenty as is par for the course with Leeds in the modern era.
Paul Heckingbottom’s side currently sit in 11th place in the Championship table on 46 points after the 2-2 draw with Derby County last time out.
Leeds are eight points off the playoff places but there is usually one side which makes a late run for the playoffs at this time of the year and often has the momentum to win that coveted place in the top flight.
Fans are divided over Leeds’ hopes and the same seems to be true of the pundits too.
Leeds legend Gordon Strachan, who played over 200 games for the club scoring 37 goals, and former manager Dennis Wise have very different views on their chances.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Debate, Strachan was full of optimism for his old club.
“Leeds,” Strachan answered when asked which club was best equipped to be promoted.
“No honestly, I’m not saying they’re definitely going to get it (but) I want a team who will come up and add to the Premier League.
“Be there, big stadiums, full, a great product to have in the league that’s what I’m looking to get up there.”
But Wise was not so sure when speaking to Sky Sports Daily.
“I can see Middlesbrough maybe creeping into the top six in place of maybe Bristol City, that’s the one I would look at and think there’s a possibility of that happening.
“I just don’t think at the moment they’re (Leeds) going to get up there, I think the teams that are up there, there’s too much of a gap between them and I think there’s other teams that will just do a little bit better than them.
“They’ve just changed managers as well and you expect him to have an input, he hasn’t had a massive input on the win ratio so far and they need that and at the moment I just can’t see Leeds getting themselves in the top six.”
One thing is for certain Leeds will have to win some real six-pointers in the coming weeks if they are to prove Strachan right and Wise wrong.
Heckingbottom’s side face playoff rivals Brentford and Middlesbrough next before a tough game against champions-elect Wolves.
