Former Rangers star Gordon Smith wants Ibrox assistant manager Jimmy Nicholl to take charge of the Gers and Graeme Murty to go back to the Under-20s.

The former Rangers star, who was on the books of the Ibrox club from 1977 until 1980, has suggested that Murty should go back to his role as the Under-20 boss.
Smith has also stated that Jimmy Nicholl should be given the Rangers first-team managerial role until the end of the season.
Nicholl was appointed as the Gers’ assistant manager in January 2018.

Smith wrote in The Sunday Post: “Murty’s time in charge is finished. He should be put back to taking the Under-20s now, and his assistant, Jimmy Nicholl, a vastly-experienced coach, handed the reins of the first-team until the end of the season.”

Future bleak for Graeme Murty?
Murty has done a decent job at Rangers, especially considering how the team were performing when he took over.
Recent results, though, have been disappointing, especially the 4-0 hammering by Old Firm rivals Celtic in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park last weekend.
It is hard to see Murty remain in charge of the Gers next season, although it may not be wise to relegate him to the Under-20s now.
